Heart Unit Study, Days 1 & 2

We did math worksheets that had a Valentine theme to it. Mistic had a multiplication worksheet that had the problems inside hearts!

We learned about our heart from Heart Healthy Lesson Plans
We've done lessons 1 and 2. Lesson one dealt with the basics- your heart pushes the blood out. Lesson two was about nutrition! We explored the food pyramid, foods around the house, and discussed how healthy we were (or were not) eating. We talked about the dangers of eating bad food choices and why it is so important to eat a healthy, variety of foods! We stuffed toilet paper rolls with cotton balls to demonstrate what clogged arteries looked like! Definitely motivation to eat right and exercise!

We've read books!

We used candy conversation hearts for writing and math!
Aspen is writing the words from the heart.

We did a reading comprehension page on Valentine's Day

We put Valentine words in alphabetical order:

For phonics we worked on -ay endings for Kindergarten and 1st grade, and the many -oo endings in 2nd grade. Foot, tooth, and blood all have a different -oo sound! We also wrote the words we came up with!

We've spent a lot of time talking about blood and hearts. What better way to tie it into Jesus than by continuing the talk! Our physical heart requires blood to live. Our spiritual heart requires the blood of Jesus to live eternally! Our memory verse has also continued this theme:

"But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
