Making "instant" healthier!

Eggo Waffles, Toaster Strudels, Biscuit and Sausage Combos, the frozen food breakfast aisle is full of choices that will have breakfast on the table in under 5 minutes! But are they really good for you?

I counted over 30 ingredients in the Low Fat Waffles Made With Whole Wheat! The Homestyle Waffles listed yellow dye. Twice!

When I went and read the ingredients on the Jimmy Dean Sandwiches I couldn't pronounce half of them! For starters, their biscuits are made with "bleached, enriched flour". A big no-no here! And don't get me started on the artificial flavors!

Don't get me wrong, I love instant meals. Not everyone has the time or ability to cook a fresh, hot breakfast every morning. People have jobs, school, or just life to get to! However, with just a little prep work you can have a freezer full of healthy "instant" breakfasts!

Make your own sausage and biscuit combos using whole wheat biscuits and turkey sausage. You will know exactly what you are eating and these freeze well!

Make your own whole wheat waffles or pancakes to freeze! We pop them in the toaster and drizzle them with organic maple (not pancake) syrup! The maple syrup has vitamins and while the cost is a little more than Aunt Jemima Pancake syrup the health benefits outway it! You can tweak any waffle/pancake recipe to make it healthier- use apple sauce instead of oil, do half white flour (please! Don't buy the bleached flour! Find some unbleached all purpose!) and half whole wheat!

Make some egg muffins and go crazy with them! Add cheese, sausage, bacon, veggies, whatever! Pop these in the microwave for a minute and pair it with a biscuit that was frozen and you seriously have a great, hearty breakfast in under 5 minutes!

The ingredient list is way less when you make your own items. You know what's in it and can pronounce every ingredient! I spend a couple hours every week or two stocking up our freezer. We also have a variety of muffins- blueberry, cinnamon brown sugar, bran, lemon poppy seed, mandarin orange, the possibilities are endless!

With just a little prep work I'm able to ensure that my family eats a nutritious breakfast every day and they don't start their morning off with sugary cereal, poptarts, or worse... frozen instant breakfasts made with bleached, enriched flour, artificial flavors, and DYES!
