From My Medicine Cabinet: Nettles & Eyebright

I'm going to be highlighting some of my favorite natural resources over the next few weeks. Today, I'm talking about nettles and eyebright!

My son tends to have problems during certain allergy seasons and our tried and true favorite is nettles and eyebright. Any time you use herbs for children you need to be cautious. Just like with traditional medicine, you can't give a young child a regular sized dosage. We like to use Herbs For Kids: Nettles & Eyebright. They help fight the allergies, but also help to build up the immune system! Win-win!

What's so special about nettles and eyebright, though?

Nettles (also known as Stinging Nettles)
increases the efficiency of liver and kidney function
has been used to treat asthma, bronchitis, and jaundice
helps treat high blood pressure, gout, and kidney stones
good source of vitamin C and A
can be used by anyone
can be added in food to increase nutritional value

You can buy nettles in powder or leaf form from Bulk Herb Store!

Eyebright
used to relieve irritation from coughs, colds, sinus infections, and sore throats
also used for hay fever and nasal congestion

You can buy eyebright from Mountain Rose Herbs

No wonder the two herbs combined make it a powerful tool to combat allergies with! Next time you (or your child) is suffering with allergies, consider the wonders of nettles and eyebright. You can buy them and prepare your own tinctures or you can do like I do and buy them already combined!

Of course, in addition to these herbs, there are MANY other herbs great for allergies and raw honey is a great addition to your diet, too! A good diet full of fruits and vegetables can help symptoms as well!

Do you use stinging nettles or eyebright?
