20 Uses Of Baking Soda

Baking soda is a STAPLE in our house! It's no secret, baking soda has many wonderful uses!

1. Use it in homemade deodorant. 1/4 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup cornstarch, 5 tablespoons coconut oil, plus 2-3 drops of essential oils (I like lavender). Melt together and let cool! I store mine in a mason jar and use my fingers to apply.

2. Make a paste to help with insect bites/stings. Use a little water to mix with the baking soda and apply to affected area.

3. Brush your teeth with it. Make homemade toothpaste or simply use it alone.

4. Bathroom cleaner! Scrub your toilet and tub with it. It's an awesome abrasive! Finish your cleaning task with a dash of white vinegar. Together, they become like dynamite!

5. Clean oral products. Dentures? Retainers? Brush them with baking soda or let them soak in a mixture of 2 teaspoons baking soda dissolved in water.

6. Relieve the itch of chicken pox. Poison ivy? Doesn't matter. Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into your bath water and soak.

7. Freshen your hairbrushes and combs. Soak them in warm water with 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda.

8. Take the gas out of beans! Love beans, but hate the after affect? When you soak your dried beans, simply add a teaspoon to the water!

9. Relieves tired feet. Add 3 tablespoons baking soda to warm water and soak!

10. Facial scrub? Make a paste using baking soda and water and use as a gentle, exfoliate facial scrub after using soap and water. Rinse clean.

11. Cut yourself shaving? Use a dab of baking soda to stop bleeding.

12. Drain cleaner. Cool Science lesson, too! Mix baking soda and vinegar to form a drain cleaner and prevent clogs. Pour 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain, followed by 1 cup vinegar. After foaming, rinse with hot water.

13. Carpet freshener. Sprinkle on carpets. Let sit overnight. Vacuum in the morning. Works in the car and house.

14. Fruit and veggie cleaner. Remove harmful pesticides or dirt and wax by using a damp cloth and baking soda to scrub clean the fruit and veggies.

15. Fluffier rice. Add 1 teaspoon baking soda to water when cooking rice.

16.Fabric softener. Add 1/2 cup during the rinse cycle instead of store bought fabric softener.

17. Smelly feet? No worries! Sprinkle in shoes and socks before wearing.

18. Out of buttermilk? Add 3/4 teaspoon baking soda to each cup of regular milk.

19. Heartburn? 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in half a glass of water helps relieve acid indigestion or heartburn. Do not use if you have a restrictive salt intake!

20. Bad breath? Use 1 teaspoon baking soda in half a cup of water. Swish through your teeth and rinse.

What is your favorite use of baking soda?

Hi, Erika!
I use baking soda with sea salt as my toothpaste of choice, I buy bob's Red Mill aluminum-free baking soda for removing the gas from beans and use it to alkalinize our bodies. Bad things can't grow in a slightly alkaline body (we take 1 1/4 tsp 1-2x/day on an empty stomach and not close to a meal that is being digested because it lowers the acid needed to digest food). And we clean our showers with it.
I apologize for not commenting for so long. Life and circumstances surrounding my mother's health and finances have made time extra scarce. I appreciate you and your wonderful, encouraging blog.
BTW, while I am thinking of it, when you ever take the time to link-up, I'd love to have you join in the "EOA' Wednesday link-up. You bless the readers and are a great addition to the community.
